Boston marathon bombing suspect no. 1 Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, who was killed early Friday in an encounter with police in Watertown, Massachusetts, is survived by his wife and daughter.
He was married to an American woman, Katherine Russel, 24, and had a daughter, Zahara, 3-year old.
Learning that Tamerlan was a suspect and responsible for the terrorist attacks and died after an encounter with police, Katherine’s family was outraged and issued an emotional statement:
“Our daughter has lost her husband today, the father of her child. We cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred. In the aftermath of the Patriot’s Day horror, we know that we never really knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Our hearts are sickened by the knowledge of the horror he has inflicted. Please respect our family’s privacy during this time.”
Before the tragedy, Tamerlan lived a seemingly normal and harmonious life with Katherine and his daughter Zahara.
A neighbor told Mail Online that Katherine embraced Islam for her husband. He said he saw her dressed in Islamic style with hair covered and baggy, flowy clothing and stayed back home with the baby. But he never saw him again. He thought he’s busy with school, the neighbor said of Tamerlan.
